Job description

The opportunity

Our client is a well-established CBD firm offering a partnership opportunity - salaried or equity depending on your transferable client base and level of experience. You might have a pure employment law background or one that is mixed with broader litigation work. The firm has long-standing clients, with an employer side focus, that range from multi-national corporates, small-medium sized businesses and representing high net worth individuals. The culture is one that involves information sharing, the ability to work collaboratively while being supported by the team in helping you grow your practice areas of interest further. There are lawyers in the team where you'll oversee their work and help manage.

You'll have the support of partners in other areas e.g. litigation to ensure that your clients needs can be serviced across the board and to consult with on matters too. The firm supports its partners in business development and marketing initiatives and they're looking for someone that will be a fit for their clientele with a mix of advisory and contentious employment law work.

The firm has modern offices, provides some flexibility in how you work and an approach to working, so it truly is progressive. A part time e.g. 4 day a week partnership opportunity is also an option.

What you need to succeed:
  • 10+ years legal experience with solid experience in employment law;
  • Experience gained in a reputable firm or in-house in an employment relations / legal role;
  • Driven to be a leader and expert in your field;
  • Ability to mentor juniors;
  • Business development capabilities; and
  • NZ qualified lawyer.
A transferable client base isn't required but would be preferred if you had contacts and relationships which could be cultivated.

You may be a partner that is looking to move into a practice with a better working environment and management, with the autonomy to shape the practice how you'd like or perhaps you're at a Senior Associate / Special Counsel level and feeling blocked from progression where you currently are. This is a firm with a good infrastructure in place to support you in managing your client relationships, with cross-referral opportunities and the opportunity to grow the practice further.

All enquiries and applications will be treated in strict confidence. This role is exclusive to CoLegal.
