About the Organisation: This role is with a well-established organisation that has been a household name in the sports and entertainment industry. In this role, you'll mentor a couple of junior Legal Counsels and report into a supportive GC so you'll be well resourced to carry out the role. Day to day work will involve reviewing, drafting and negotiating partnership agreements, sponsorship agreements, marketing related agreements, IT related agreements and advising on consumer law and competition law matters as well as privacy matters. The business works with external Counsel when specialist capabilities are required. The ideal person will have: 7+ years PQE with sound commercial drafting and negotiation skills with regulatory experience being a bonus; A background within a reputable commercial legal team within a firm, with in-house or secondment experience being highly valued; Strong commercial acumen with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders; Pragmatism to apply the law to a business understanding its risk profile and helping to achieve commercial objectives; and Ability to hold a current NZ Practicing certificate. Based in the CBD, they operate in a highly regulated environment and are going through a transformational period to enhance their service and product to its customers, as well as modernising their internal systems for efficiency purposes. The PositionThis role is for a 3+ year PQE lawyer (those more senior seeking a level of flexibility are also of interest) with a strong background in corporate and commercial legal matters to join a progressive team as they continue to lead the way in the insurance industry. As in-house Counsel, you would play a key role in advising on various matters of the group that may include: commercial contract drafting, technology, data and outsourcing agreements, corporate support on transactions, corporate governance & regulation. Your broader role includes strategically partnering with internal stakeholders and business units to understand their commercial drivers and provide pragmatic advice that is also legally sound. It's important that you can therefore quickly establish rapport and credibility with a variety of people and gain an understanding of the context in which you're carrying out the work. You'd work with external law firms as required on matters that require specialist support and based on internal capacities too. The ideal candidate will have: 3+ years PQE with a background in corporate and commercial law with strong contract drafting and advice skills is key.
