Job description

The Company

Our client is a leading player in the FMCG sector working with an array of much loved household brands. The organisation prides itself on its people driven culture, where there is plenty of support across the business and a commitment to providing sustainable outcomes. Based in the CBD, you'd be joining an established legal function and due to growth and investment, they are looking to add an in-house lawyer to the close-knit team.

The business is open to a hybrid working arrangement where you can work 2 days from home and with flex, and they offer some good benefits including insurance and bonuses based on individual and company performance. Overtime is rare so you'd be able to maintain a healthy work/life balance.

The Position

In this role, you'll be working with a senior lawyer on matters involving:

  • M&A support (not a significant part of the role)
  • Corporate governance
  • Employment law & Health and Safety advice
  • Consumer law and competition law advice e.g. reviewing marketing materials
  • General business advisory matters
Your broader role includes strategically partnering with internal stakeholders and business units (e.g. sales and operations teams) to understand their commercial drivers and provide pragmatic advice that is also legally sound. It's important that you can therefore quickly establish rapport and credibility with a variety of people and gain an understanding of the context in which you're carrying out the work. You'd work with an external law firm as required on matters that require specialist support or based on internal capacities too.

The ideal candidate will have:
  • 3+ years PQE with a background in a solid grounding in commercial law including contract drafting and negotiations. Experience in all areas isn't a must but you'd ideally have some experience within a reputable NZ firm;
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence and guide internal and external stakeholders on a variety of commercial legal matters; and
  • A commercial mindset with the ability to think strategically and pragmatically.
The team is looking for someone that is proactive, with a good attitude to their work and has good interpersonal skills. They operate in a supportive environment, where there is mutual respect among all.
