The Opportunity

An opportunity has arisen for an intermediate level lawyer to join our client’s litigation team due to consistent growth in workloads from top-end insurers and re-insurers. You will work in a team-based culture where there isn't a hierarchy but more of a flat structure. There is the chance to be involved in files end to end and take on greater responsibility on more complex claims as you progress. The work will involve contentious insurance matters, primarily representing insurer clients, in matters such as statutory liability, professional indemnity (e.g. D&O), professional negligence, construction-related insurance matters, marine disputes, business interruption and regulatory investigations, acting for insurers and its brokers. 

Working in insurance litigation means you're working in a field where there is a steady workflow of litigation matters rather than high peaks and low troughs. Each fact scenario you're working to resolve is unique and you'll have multiple files on the go so won't be just working on one large file for a long time, without the ability to get exposure on other disputes. 
  
About you: 

• 2+ years litigation experience, gained in a well-regarded litigation practice or within an insurance organisation. While having some insurance litigation experience is preferred, those with a solid civil litigation background interested in this area are of interest also; 
• A team player that enjoys varied work;
• An analytical mind with good drafting skills and client relationship management capabilities and; 
• A decent university academic record. 

Perhaps you are currently working at an insurance company and have been thinking about a move back to private practice to build on your technical legal skills? Likewise, you might be keen to move into a specialist litigation team (from a broader disputes background) where you can grow your skills in the insurance field, in a team where finishing at 5:30pm is more the norm than an exception.
