Job description
Our client is a well-established CBD firm offering a partnership opportunity - salaried or equity depending on your transferable client base and background/experience. The ideal candidate will have a general civil and commercial litigation background as the team does a mix of disputes which cover contractual disputes, insolvency and restructuring matters, property disputes, regulatory investigations, negligence, construction disputes, shareholder/business disputes, trust, and estate litigation. The team represents a range of clients from multi-national businesses to developers and high-net-worth individuals.
This is an opportunity to work in a firm and team that is expanding and looking to build in 2026. You'll have the experience of partners in other specialist areas e.g. employment law and commercial to consult with as required so that your clients can be serviced for their various other needs too.
Our client is looking for someone with well-developed advocacy skills, who has a solid track record with resolving complex claims, coming from a well-regarded practice, including High Court advocacy experience. You will be supported in business development and marketing initiatives to help grow your practice further. The firm has strong referral ties both locally and internationally.
What you need to succeed:
You may be a partner that is looking to move into a practice that aligns better with your values from a leadership point of view, or with better support in place, or perhaps you're at a Senior Associate / Special Counsel level and feeling blocked from progression where you currently are and you've developed some of your own client following. This is a firm with a sound reputation and infrastructure in place to support you in managing your client relationships and where there will be cross-referral opportunities.

- 12+ years legal experience with solid experience in litigation work;
- Experience gained in a reputable city practice;
- Driven to be a leader and expert in your field;
- Ability to mentor juniors;
- Decent court / advocacy experience in NZ; and
- NZ qualified lawyer.
