Job description

The Firm

An opportunity has arisen for an intermediate-level lawyer to join our client’s civil and insurance litigation team. Based in the CBD, with modern offices,  this is a chance to hone your civil litigation skills in a specialist area where you will work for some of the leading insurance companies in NZ, its brokers and agents - learning from industry experts. You will be part of a team based atmosphere, that operates in a collaborative manner and without hierarchies so that you can get involved in files end to end early on.

The Role

The work will involve contentious civil and insurance claims relating to statutory liability claims, professional indemnity claims (e.g. claims against lawyers, accountants etc), professional negligence, and construction-related insurance claims, statutory liability claims (e.g. Health and Safety) and general insurance. If employment law is an area of interest, you will also have the option to have exposure to employment law disputes too. You'll be involved in research, drafting work, and attending negotiation and settlement conferences.

About you

  • 2-6 years PQE gained in civil and/or insurance litigation from a well-regarded legal practice in NZ. If you have a general litigation background, that will be of interest also;
  • An interest in insurance law, with the ability to apply sound litigation principles to different types of claims;
  • An analytical mind with good drafting skills;
  • An understanding of High Court rules and an interest in applying negotiation skills.
Perhaps you have gained solid civil litigation experience and would like to specialise in insurance law which is dynamic in the sense that every fact based scenario is unique. Or maybe you would like to move into a non-hierarchical environment where you have more involvement in files end-to-end. Either way, get in touch with us to find out more about this opportunity.
