Job description

About the opportunity

We have partnered with an organisation in a growth-related Senior Legal Counsel position. Our client invests, develops and builds high-quality property and housing across NZ, which provides a chance for you to contribute to resolving NZ's housing shortage as well as shape its landscape. The projects involve both larger-scale urban development of property as well as projects in regional areas. They do varied work and you'll have work that you can really sink your teeth into.

This role will see you work on property development and subdivision projects, commercial leasing and lease-back matters, dealing with complex titles, easements, covenants, working on the acquisition and divestment of property transactions, as well as acquisitions under the PWA. You will work as part of a team, supported by other lawyers, that very much work collaboratively to deliver practical and legally sound outcomes for the business. Reporting to the Associate General Counsel, you'll have the chance to be mentored as well as help mentor more junior solicitors in the wider team. As the organisation grows, there will be growth opportunities for yourself within.

About you
  • 7/8+ years PQE in commercial property law
  • Experience gained within a leading firm or specialist commercial property team and/or in-house role.
    • This role would suit either someone currently working in-house within the property sector or looking at transitioning their skills to their first in-house legal role (perhaps at Senior Associate level).
  • Commercial nous and an ability to understand deliverables of the business.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to work with internal and external stakeholders at all levels.
  • Adaptability to deal with changes in project matters and an ability to drive things forward in a commercially sound manner.
Benefits include:
  • 5 weeks paid annual leave
  • Discounted medical
  • Discounted Life insurance
  • Phone and data plan, laptop and WFH set up
  • Flexi hours e.g. the ability to work 2 days a week from home
Part-time (e.g. 35 hours per week, but not less) can be accommodated for the right person. There will be a good degree of flexibility in this role so you'll have the opportunity to manage how and when you do your work.
