About Wilson Parking

Wilson Parking is the largest parking provider in NZ that started off with one car park in NZ, over 35 years ago, and has rapidly grown since. Wilson Parking has approximately 500 carparks that it owns or leases across NZ and remains a family owned and operated business. The business prides itself on building long-term relationships with its customers and offers outstanding service to their clients and landlords. They do this through providing premium carpark locations, the use of cutting-edge parking technology such as the introduction of the ParkMate app and providing 24/7 support with the Wilson ParkWatch team.

Benefits include:
  • Ability to work up to 2 days a week from home
  • Free car parking space in town (almost goes without saying!)
  • A short term incentive scheme
About the Role

Reporting into the CEO, This is a newly created sole in-house legal role. You will work closely with internal and external stakeholders (such as the business development team) and this role would suit an experienced lawyer that has a sound working knowledge in commercial property matters, including transactions and leasing work. Day to day work may include:
  • Drafting, reviewing, advising and negotiating on commercial lease agreements. Most car park spaces are tenanted by Wilson Parking, each site and contractual arrangement is unique so this will form a core part of the role and there would be variety in each contractual arrangement.
  • Assisting on acquisitions and disposal of land (and adjacent buildings)

  • Assisting on ad hoc commercial agreements such as tech related agreements, maintenance and contractor agreements
  • Implementing and updating policy and governance documents
  • Property related dispute resolution work
  • Liaising with external counsel on various matters as required
  • Understanding and helping achieve commercial objectives in the business that also minimize legal risk
About you:
  • 5+ years experience working in either a private practice role in the property and/or commercial law field or in an in-house legal role with a focus on dealing with property related matters;
  • Strong technical drafting, advisory and negotiation skills;
  • A sound understanding of commercial leases, both ADLS and bespoke forms and the ability to apply your knowledge in a practical context;
  • A pragmatic and commercially minded approach;
  • Commercial acumen and the ability to assess and effectively communicate risks to the business;
  • Ability to build relationships and influence both internal and external stakeholders on commercial matters.
You may be looking to make the transition from private practice to an in-house legal role where you can be immersed in a growing business and see your work come through to fruition, or you may be an in-house lawyer looking to join a flat structured and dynamic environment where you can influence positive outcomes for a business. Either way get in touch to find out more.

Salary will be based on experience. Part time applicants 3-4 days per week may be of interest also.
