An opportunity has arisen for an experienced Trust Accountant to join the team in a pivotal role supporting the firm's trust accounting function and AML compliance requirements. Working closely with the Practice Manager, Directors, and legal staff, you'll play a key part in ensuring the smooth and compliant operation of the firm's financial and regulatory obligations.

This is a hands on position that will see you working alongside legal professionals and support staff, taking ownership of the trust account while providing guidance and support around AML compliance processes.

- Managing daily trust account operations, reconciliations, and reporting to ensure compliance with New Zealand Law Society requirements
- Conducting pre-settlement reviews and checks to ensure trust accounting and AML obligations are met
- Processing trust account payments, monitoring client funds, and maintaining strong internal controls
- Supporting the firm's AML compliance requirements and assisting staff with related queries and processes
- Managing credit control activities including billing, debtor management, statements, and monitoring stale trust balances
You are an organised, detail oriented professional who enjoys working in a role where accuracy, integrity, and relationship management are equally important. You'll bring a proactive approach and be comfortable working both independently and collaboratively across a busy legal environment.
To be successful, you will ideally have:
- Previous experience in legal trust accounting, with a solid understanding of trust account regulations and compliance requirements
- Working knowledge of AML legislation and practical experience supporting AML processes and procedures
- Strong financial administration and reconciliation skills, with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to build positive relationships across all levels of a business
- Confidence using practice management systems, cloud based technologies, and the Microsoft Office suite
