Job description

The Opportunity:

An opportunity has arisen for an intermediate level Lawyer with at least 2 years solid litigation experience to join a leading practice in their medical and healthcare law team. Based in their Wellington office, you will work collaboratively with authors and seniors in the team across NZ, but based in Wellington.

This role provides the chance to have a good level of involvement in files from the get go, with a strong pathway for progression in place which will see you take on greater responsibility for more complex matters as you grow in the role. Working closely with the partners, the work will have a greater focus on the medical sector as well as other general areas of litigation involving contentious insurance matters such as statutory liability, professional indemnity, construction and building claims, advising on subrogated recoveries, and investigations.

The firm has modern operating systems with a paperless approach. It offers good flexible working conditions for staff with the option to work from home as part of a hybrid working model.

Ideally, you will have:
  • 2+ years litigation experience gained in a well-regarded practice, in-house in the medico-legal field or with an insurer;
  • Strong interest in Medico-law (prior experience in this area is not necessary, rather advantageous);
  • A team player that enjoys collaborating with others;
  • An analytical mind with good drafting skills and client relationship management capabilities; and
  • Good academic transcript of at least a B average.
Perhaps you are currently working in another area of litigation and are looking to make the transition into the medico-law space or keen to be a part of a forward thinking team where you can build on your insurance, civil and medico-legal skills.
