Job description

About the firm:

An award winning, full service national law firm with offices in the main centres. With a longstanding history, the firm is looking to further grow its national Building and Construction team and has a successful record of individuals achieving partnership based on demonstrated and sustained legal excellence.

In addition, the firm promotes diversity and inclusion; values work/life balance and a life outside of work; and providing flexibility where appropriate.

About the role:

As a part of a national Building and Construction team, you'd work closely with the partners based in Christchurch and Auckland. The work will involve a mixture of commercial work related to construction and infrastructure related projects - including drafting and negotiating standard form construction contracts, working on contractual arrangements around residential developments, advising clients on infrastructure-related projects, advising on procurement contracts, consultancy agreements, joint venture arrangements and risk mitigation strategy. You'll have end to end exposure on projects, working for both public and private sector organisations, Principal clients and developers.

This is an opportunity to work with a good level of independence and autonomy but with partner support so that you'll be well equipped to develop your client management and technical skills further. You'll have hands on client exposure and there is collaboration between the various offices with the partners visiting other offices on a regular basis. There is also genuine scope for partnership progression for the right person.

This role can be Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch based.

About you:
  • 5+ years solid PQE in construction and infrastructure (those that have gained relevant in-house experience are of interest also);
  • Commercial nous and the ability to advise strategically;
  • Experience gained in a reputable firm and/or relevant organisation, with some front-end construction and infrastructure experience; and
  • Strong interpersonal, client relationship management and communication skills.
You may have reached a bottleneck in terms of progression and looking for a role with genuine scope for growth; or you may be someone returning from overseas having gained major projects and construction experience, looking to be a part of a team that does quality work. Likewise, this could be an opportunity to take your in-house legal skills back into a private practice environment that offers a steady flow of quality work, work/life balance and room to grow your career.
